Knotweed Extract

Giant knotweed, or Japanese Knotweed, Reynoutria japonica, polygonum cuspidatum, is a species of herbaceous perennial plant of the knotweed and buckwheat family Polygonaceae. It is native to East Asia and has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese and Japanese medicine. In North America and Europe, the species has successfully established itself in numerous habitats and is classified as a pest and invasive species in several countries.
Japanese knotweed is one of the richest natural sources of resveratrol, a non-flavonoid polyphenolic compound produced by many plants in response to stress. Other notable compounds include emodin (a laxative-like anthraquinone), polydatin, flavonoids (like rutin and quercetin), and various stilbenes. Polydatin is the water-soluble glycoside form of resveratrol, offering enhanced bioavailability and superior absorption compared to standard resveratrol.
